Home from the Hospital

Jamie came home from the hospital tonight at 8 pm after getting her 24-hour urine test back. Her protein level went up about 200 milligrams (from 800 to 1033), but the doctor said that was not a significant enough increase for her to have to stay.

She got her 2nd steroid shot at around 6:15 as well. This one was not nearly as painful as the first one for her because they stuck her in the backside instead of the thigh, so that was positive.

She has another doc appointment on Monday, so hopefully things will not progress and she will buy more time.

Keep praying that God would do a miracle and keep Jamie’s blood pressure down and protein levels down and blood tests good until at least May 15th. Our God is able!

Jamie in the hospital

Here’s an update on Jamie’s situation in dealing with preeclampsia.

We saw the doc on Thursday and he said things were not looking great. Her blood pressure was high and the protein in her urine took a significant jump. So he ordered her to get a blood test done on Friday morning and, depending on those results, he would determine whether she would be admitted to the hospital on Friday night. Regardless of those results, though, he said we would definitely go to the hospital Saturday & Sunday for her to receive steroid injections to help the baby’s lungs develop because he is anticipating a premature delivery, probably sometime in the next 2 weeks.

So Jamie did the blood test Friday morning and, while waiting into the afternoon for the results, noticed that she wasn’t feeling Judah (that’s probably going to be the baby’s name!) move as much as she thought he should. So she called the doc about that and he told her that she would be admitted Friday night. Then he told her that the results of her blood test had not worsened, so that was a relief!

So Friday evening we checked into Women & Babies Hospital so they could ive the steroid injections, monitor the baby’s movement, get blood pressure readings, and do another 24-hour urine test. The hospital is definitely not the place to go to get a good night of sleep! They do take great care of their patients, but every so often in the middle of the night they wake her up and mess with different things. I slept right through most of it, though, on the comfy pull out chair they provide.

Anyhoo, the doc came in this morning and said he was really pleased with all the signs since last night: her blood pressure was normal, Judah was sloshing around a good bit, and she was feeling fine. He said they will complete the 24-hour urine test around 6:30 and then he’ll come visit us a couple hours later and, depending on the results of that test, he’ll determine whether she can go home. So that was some positive news this morning, and we welcomed it gladly.

We also got to read Scripture together this morning from Mark 4 & 5. Encouraging stuff. Especially the part where Jesus heals Jairus’s daughter, the woman touches the hem of his garment and is healed, and he heals the Gerasene demoniac. It is encouraging because we know that the Master Physician is totally in control of this situation for us, and He has given us the strength we’ve needed so far. He can speak and cause the wind and the sea to obey His voice, so we know He can tell Jamie’s preeclampsia to be gone as well. But whatever He chooses to do, we will consider it all joy because we know the testing of our faith produces perseverance and character and hope that does not disappoint.

Why not?

I don’t know if I’ll really use this thing or not, but I figure setting it up shouldn’t hurt anyone.
